Linear germicidal lamps are used for disinfection of air, water and surfaces as well as industrial processing and curing. The disinfection process is initiated by the short wave UVC (between 180nm and 280nm) transmitted through the quartz envelope of the lamp into the surrounding environment and these UV wavelengths are lethal to microorganisms. Germicidal lamps are commonly available in two output levels ( L or low ozone and VH or high ozone) which is dictated by the type of quartz tubing used to formulate the lamp envelope. Custom ozone outputs are also available via special order. The simplest method of identification for linear germicidal lamps is using the base face to base face measurement method which is the overall length of the lamp excluding the connecting pins and a determination of the appropriate ozone emission level. The lamp length measurements are often in millimeters.
Please note that all germicidal lamps operate on a ballast (power supply) and if an alternate lamp lamp or a new system is being considered then a discussion of ballasting options should be part of the overall purchase decision.
